The shop is as ready as it can be for the freeze. The lights are low, casting long, dramatic shadows that would make Laughlin proud. I’ve grabbed my nightly companion from the shelf to take upstairs: The Art of Doing Nothing by Veronique Vienne.
It feels like a necessary bit of research. In a world that demands we always be “doing,” perhaps the secret to surviving the cold is to simply be. I plan to test her theories by the fireplace with a hot toddy, while Hughey takes the “doing nothing” part to an Olympic level.
The heavy curtains are drawn.
The shop is tucked in.
Stay warm. See you at the first light.
